Today my oldest turned 13. I can not believe how fast the last 13 years have gone! We had a fun day filled with lunch at red robin, then off to see The Karate Kid, then home for cake and ice cream! Boys played outside as long as the light and wind would allow and now we are all tucked in watching the first season of survivor on dvd (never watched it)

I love this boy! Happy bday!

Gone to the birds

So I have never been afraid of birds. Never had a reason too. Until now. AND NOW they are freaking EVERY WEAR! LOIS you may want to turn back to the last blog you read and forget about reading mine! ;0

The day before yesterday was steak day. Big day at our house because usually I am the only one who ends up eating it. I have one boy who hates to chew it and one who refuses to eat red meat. So instead of cheers from the peanut gallery (oh wait we can't have that either, allergies) I get moans and groans. I decided that salt and pepper, and a good amount of garlic, would hide the fact that our dinner once mooed. I headed to the grill to get it lit and warmed up. When I lifted the lid we found weeds had blown into it and I spent a half hour picking them all out and cleaning it up. We (I) ate our yummy (chewy) steaks and then I headed back out to clean the grill again. What to my surprise did I find? A BIRD MAKING A NEST IN MY BBQ!!!!!! It was still freaking WARM from cooking. It flew out and nearly got me, and then started squawking like I was the one who scared the living begoodness out of IT! After my heart attack I taped the air holes shut and watched from the family room window as he continually kept trying to get in. Funnily enough the only tape in the house was packing tape so his hole to his home was deceptively cut off from use and he couldn't tell!! For the next hour or so that was my sole entertainment. Even America's got talent couldn't tear me away, because lets face it, THIS year I am not so sure about anyone actually having talent in America. Every time I laughed Taylor kept telling me I was so "MEAN" and "why could'nt we let him build a home in there?" WTH!!?? Um....no thank you? So now I have the project of completely bleaching my entire BBQ because I am seriously freaked OUT that there is lice and other living microscopic germs in my BBQ.

Anyone want to come have hot dogs at my house tonight? giggle.

Then this morning Chris and I are out spraying the weeds in our parking lot at work and he finds TWO little baby sparrows on the ground. Apparently they both fell out of their nest right above our heads. What is really sad is that one of them was still alive! His little feet were kicking while he lays on his back squawking. Chris nearly started to cry and wanted me to take care of him. WHAT do you think I am a MOM??? I explained to him the concept of survival of the fittest but I think all I did was scare him into thinking that if he ever broke his leg I would leave him to die. Poor kid has such a tender heart. Now he is mad at me and keeps looking at me like I am a murderer. He went back out and checked to see if it was still there and comes in and tells me the mother bird was there watching from the telephone pole. He muttered under his breath what a horrible mom that bird was. I hope I can live up to his standards! lol....

soccer season is FINISHED WAHOOOOO!!!

Don't get me wrong I really enjoy watching bug play soccer. We even watch the womans american team together because we enjoy it so much. Taylor likes the womans team better because they move slower so its easier to see where the ball is. lol. The last game of the season was last week and I missed most of it due to TWO conflicting kid things. I got to see the first 15 minutes and the last 5. After I left to drop off my other son at a band concert Bug made a FANTASTIC goal and I missed it! So mad.

The reason I am glad its over however is this freaking crazy weather. We did not have ONE game with good weather the entire season!! Rain, snow, Hail, lighting, and WIND WIND WIND!!!!!!!

Good Ridance...till next year.

This kid is glad its over

My oldest son LOVES music. All manners of music. Rock, Country, classical, etc. He jumped at the chance to play in bad in the sixth grade and continued to seventh. He did switch instruments in between and regretted it all this last year. He really struggled with his practicing and with motivation. He finally decided that he no longer wanted to pursue band and we are taking the sax back to the music store and will quite possibly be picking up a violin for little brother. Oh joy. More squeaking.

party like its 1999.

My youngest son recently had a birthday and this year happened to be the year he could have a "friend" party. I don't do them very often cuz lets face it, its a HUGE hastle and I hate them. When I asked him what "theme" he wanted he decided on "Diary of a Wimpy kid". Its his MOST favorite series and he has read them a kazillion times. I searched the web and stores for anything wimpy and all I could find was a cute party pass (like a backstage pass) for a party to WATCH the movie AT the movies. I decided I would do it myself.

First I scanned the front cover of the front on one of the books. Then manipulated it in photo shop to have the title say "Birthday of a Wimpy kid". I used that as the front of the invitations.

Then I took the same book and scanned several of the pictures or cartoons used to illustrate this goofy story. I made them all 1.5 x 1.5  inches in photo shop and printed out several sheets on card stock.

Then I punched them with my hand punch and also punched a scallop border with my nessabilities die and glued 2 together with a toothpick in the middle for the tops of the cupcakes.

I don't have a photo of the cupcakes because they are on a different camera!! lol. I used a red table cloth with blue and yellow plates to match the colors on the covers of the other books. It was a BLAST!

For gift boxes I used a die cut from the sweet treats cartidge on the cricut. There is a polka dot cupcake holder that I cut from yellow cardstock and inked it to look like moldy cheese! Yes that is a part of the book! I filled them up with candy and bouncy balls!
